Why get into Affiliate Marketing?

Why do thousands of online marketers, me included, start their careers as affiliate marketers? Simply because it’s so easy. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s easy to make money, but it’s easy to get started. You don’t have to create your own product. You just find an existing product and then find a way to start promoting it. When other people buy the product, you earn a commission.

Why do thousands of online marketers fail at affiliate marketing? It’s pretty much the same reason, because it’s so easy. Those thousands of other affiliate marketers all compete in the same market, promoting the same products, fighting for the same customers. To be successful, you need to find a way to stand out from the crowd.
Part of the battle to be a successful affiliate, is to choose the right niche and the right products to promote in that niche. Ideally, you would choose a niche that you are familiar with. That gives you the opportunity to share your own knowledge, show your authority and engage your customers. Alternatively, choose a niche that you can learn about, something that interests you, share what you learn and again, establish your authority.

Once you have your chosen niche, find products that you can recommend to your customers. There are dozens of top affiliate sites on the net where you can find existing products to promote. Clickbank, JVZoo, Commission Junction and Amazon are some of the more well known. Visit those sites, join as an affiliate and explore their marketplaces to find products you can promote and earn commissions.

Once you have a niche and a product (or products) to promote, you need to decide how you will find your customers. My personal preference is to build a niche website, maybe even a blog. You don’t necessarily need a website, you may prefer to use other forms of online advertising, classified ad sites, Facebook pages or email campaigns for example. I find that with a website, you have more opportunity to engage your customers and attract repeat visitors or build a list of prospective customers.

It takes some time and effort to actually make an income as an affiliate. Don’t give up and it will happen. More experienced marketers may eventually create their own products, and recruit their own team of affiliate marketers to promote products.

In the early days when you start out, affiliate marketing is a great learning opportunity. The most important lesson is to do something a little different than everybody else. Make it your own business, share your own original stories to promote products. Stand out from the crowd and you will be successful.
